2. Research Institutes and Speciality
(1) Research Institute of Economics for Development in China (Director: Prof. He Liancheng; Deputy Director: Associate Prof. Yue Zhihong)
With Prof. He Liancheng, famous economist, at the core, this institute aims at advancing and realizing chinization of development economics. On the basis of summarizing general laws of underdeveloped countries’ economics development and closely integrating with Chinese realities, this institute is with a view of establishing and constructing subjective system of China development economics. Based on this view, it studies major theoretical and practical issues in China’s economic development, and offers advisory services for government’s major decisions and policies.
(2) Research Institute of Western Resources, Environment and Sustainable Development (Director: Prof. Cao Mingming; Deputy Director:
From the perspective of intercrossing subjects---environmental economics, ecology and economic geography and so on, this institute studies interactive mechanism between economic growth and natural resources development, environmental conservation and ecological management in western regions’ development. Under the principle of sustainable development, this institute also studies theoretical and practical issues on the coordination and unity of economic, social and ecological benefits in the rapid economic increasing progress. What’s more, it evaluates distribution-choosing and environment-influencing in the key regional programs, and offers advisory services for government’s major decisions and policies.
(3) Research Institute of Evaluating and Analyzing Western Provinces’ Economic Development Competitiveness (Director: Prof. Yao Huiqin)
Against the background of Western Region Development, this institute comprehensively uses development economics, growth economics, public economics and institutional economics to detect and evaluate existing situation and development momentum of western regions’ economic development competitiveness since the Western Region Development Policy has been issued. Meanwhile, this institute compares and analyzes advantages and disadvantages in the process of development, so that it can offer advisory services for government’s major decisions and policies.
(4) Research Institute of Western Counties’ Economics Development and New-county Construction (Director: Prof. Xu Zhangyong; Deputy Director: Prof. An Shuwei)
This institute sets the western counties’ economic development as study subjects. It applies theories of regional economics, development economics, industrial economics, and circular economics etc, by which it systematically summarizes, compares and analyzes western regions’ economic development model. Based on its extensive investigations, this institute also studies and probes into ways that new villages of different regions should be constructed. In that case, it can afford grounds for the governments at all levels to make strategies to realize rapid economic development in western counties and supplies advisory services to make and adjust policies concerning new-country construction.
(5) Research Institute of Western Enterprises’ Development (Director: Prof. Zhao Zengyao; Deputy Director: Associate Prof. Gu Ying)
This institute sets the western enterprises’ development as study subjects. It applies relevant theories of modern management, industrial economics, and operations research etc, by which it studies important theoretical and practical problems, including strategic adjustment of state-owned enterprises, cultivation and development of medium-sized and small enterprises, crisis management of medium-sized and small enterprises, human resources management, investment and financing policies, and enterprise grouping and so on. It can supply advisory services for the enterprises to make strategic decisions.
(6) Research Institute of China’s Economic Thought and Modern Enterprise Culture (Director: Prof. Wei Wei; Deputy Director: Prof. Yang Jianfei)
This institute takes its grounds on probing the history of Chinese Economics Thought, Economics Management Thought in China, and Traditional Chinese Culture. Under the principle of making the past serve the present, it integrates modern enterprise theories to systemically study the features and laws of Chinese enterprise culture, and he ways that harmonious enterprises culture can be constructed. It also offer advisory services for system-creating of enterprise culture.
(7) Research Center for European Studies (Director: Prof. Ren Zongzhe; Deputy Director: Prof. Gu Ying)
This institute aims at blending resources concerning European studies in every school, department and institute at Northwest University. With “Frame Plan of Europe’s Research and Development” as a turning point, it depends on EU project contributions. It introduces advanced concepts and study methods, improves the overall level of European studies in Northwest University, and enhances academic exchanges and cooperation in the outermost.
